White Crape Myrtle

White Crape Myrtle
The blooms finally broke today. I prefer the white one to the pink. The white has an almost etherial delicacy to it

I adore crape myrtles. They won't bloom outdoors where I live, but I have a few potted little ones that I bring inside in the winter. They flower a bit, but they really want more sun and heat.

I didn't know there was a white one. I like it better, too! That particular pink is too much for me, I guess. Great shots, whatever the color.

Thankyou Diane.. deep red too. I want a red one. Here the OU colours are maroon and cream.. so you see the red and white alot.

The red "Dynamite" is fabulous! Wow, TNT! Yes, you must have one. I see that one variety MIGHT grow in USDA zone 6. I'm in 5b, but it's a "special" 5b, because there are May, even June frosts. Anything with flower buds at that time can be a non-bloomer, like my so-called hardy hydrangea. It was developed in N. Michigan, for Pete's sake, but has had exactly one teeny blossom cluster in five years. The roots live through -25F, according to info, but they fail to say that does not mean it will bloom! I guess in the east the Spring is much more gentle. Tomorrow night might be a light frost (again) and I have to cover a lot of things. Worried about my fully budded delphinium! Such a pain.

We have ice storms and -8F ... I bet you could make one grow. They are tough. Frost... we dont have frost that late.. but its been an easy winter and mine arent putting flower buds up yet. Honestly.. its worth a shot. If you got one of the smaller ones you could sheet drape it in a late frost.

I prune heavily too.. most only bloom on new wood.. so that helps.

Oh yes, new wood bloomers are always best here. I think I'll mail-order one in early spring, if I've got the money. It's unlikely any nursery will have one, it's just not something you see around here at all. Mrs. Delphinium came through a frost like a champ with a light covering, so I'm happy.

Just did some research about black sections on the trunks of my two potted Japanese maples. It's a terminal fungus I don't recall the name of. Only thing to do is let them die. The smaller one is already a goner, bigger one still looking healthy, but has the same black places. Waaaaah, I was so proud of those little trees!

Can you reach the spots.. try a fungal spray work it in with an old toothbrush... got to be worth a try. Wipe the brush off and the spray.. repeat... I adore Acers... sigh.. lost a little beauty I planted here to the ^&*()_+ drought.
