A stylish hand; impressive considering the size of the canvas and the challenging instrument. And it conveys a familiar lament. Curious that even limited to Freeview there is a dizzying choice of programmes to watch, few of which appeal. I think television has had its day.

Having lived from the early 40s for about 14 years without TV, I can take it or leave it, but there still are some exceptional programmes too good to miss.

I wouldn’t have added the exclamation mark. It’s a shame the test cards are not on now, but the rise of slow tv is encouraging. I particularly enjoyed the Sami reindeer ride across the frozen wastes. I hope the BBC show it again this year.
