Otter Tail Power - Lake Preston, SD

Otter Tail Power - Lake Preston, SD
I swung by Lake Preston to see if anything changed since my last trip through the area a while back. Everything appeared unchanged, but the scarce (if not rare) GE Form 109 streetlight has since given way to a NEMA standard light. :-|

SW Ohio Lines, Power Lines have particularly liked this photo

Nice old school sub there! I even spot a little Westinghouse distribution transformer in the midst. Does this step 69 kV down to 4.16 kV?

It's a bit complicated - the transmission side is 41.6kV, but one bay of the substation steps it down to 4160V for Lake Preston, but there's also a 12.5kV bay for the city of Erwin to the north, which may or may not be the same bay that also handles the 12.5kV output from the peaking plant behind the building.

Interesting. I guess the 12.5 kV bay must be the newer metal portion of the sub? It is also good to see some towns still running 4.16 kV distribution. A lot of that has been disappearing lately.
