Harman's Cross benches (and reflections)

HBM everyone from Harman's Cross station on the Swanage line!

This is the line two of my brothers used daily to get to senior school many, many moons ago. A cousin of my father's was a driver on this line - we got special treatment!

"The regular train service between Swanage and Wareham was controversially axed by British Rail in January, 1972, with six and a half miles of the single track line from Furzebrook to Corfe Castle and Swanage being lifted in just seven weeks that summer.

The Swanage Railway has been rebuilt from nothing since 1976 and in 2014 the heritage line was connected with the national railway system – near Worgret Junction, south of Wareham, on the main London to Weymouth line – thanks to an innovative signalling system linking the heritage line with Network Rail." www.swanagerailway.co.uk

Such a pretty looking and well looked after station.............beautiful in the sunshine. There's been a few stories on TV lately about heritage lines being reopened and in some cases joined back up to the national rail system...........such great news that this is slowly happening!

Okehampton to Exeter reopened to regular service last week. Our resident nerd went on Saturday, says he thought it was lovely they've kept the heritage shop open and taken on some of the heritage r'way staff.

I seem to rememberr walking on the track bed from Corfe it was hard going on the ballast.
