On this day ...
... in 2018 I summited, to take this view from the top of Burrow Mump looking across the Somerset Levels towards the Quantock Hills.
The ruins of St. Michael's Church stand atop Burrow Mump (both words meaning hill), this particular church built in 1793 but not finished due to insufficient funding. The site has been home to a church since the 14th century. The ruins were dedicated as a war memorial when they and the surrounding land were donated to the National Trust in 1949. As well as archeaological evidence of Medieval building there are also signs of some Roman activity.
The Mump itself, made of Triassic sandstone capped by Keuper marl, at 24 metres high dominates this part of the levels and has glorious 360' views.
