Portsmouth Street Art (+PiP)

14 Sep 2023 30 27 102
There was a Street Art Festival in Portsmouth over the weekend of 9th/10th September. Around 100 artists came and took part. The Festival was sponsored by the Council and many local businesses donated paint and other equipment. Additionally they and several private residents allowed their walls to be used. I've spent a while walking round the city taking photos..........and I still have quite a lot to track down and capture. I'll be sharing them on here periodically. The artists names can be seen in these two images.

Guernsey Lily

18 Sep 2023 29 38 86
It was wet and windy here yesterday morning and I found that one of the stems of my Guernsey Lily flowers had snapped. I rescued it and brought it indoors to photograph. This was taken in natural light from the window. The background is a sheet of paper taken from a craft book which depicts spring flowers, so I had to set up the shot so the background was blurred but still recognisable. I hope you like it. In the PiP you will see the same flower, but photographed against a green card background. Personally I prefer my main image, but thought I'd share it anyway.

Snail on Wild Carrot seed head

A very small snail on a Wild Carrot seed head. Better viewed large I think, as it is well camouflaged.

The Heart of the Passion Flower

13 Sep 2023 33 34 120
I saw this flower growing up the side of a wooden fence in an alleyway in Portsmouth. I didn't have a macro lens with me, so this is a huge crop, but overall I'm pleased with it.

Fuchsia

Taken in my garden yesterday afternoon. I thought these were all finished for this year, but this one seems to be hanging on!

Oyster Shell and Barnacles (+PiP)

12 Sep 2023 31 39 102
On my walk last Tuesday, I ventured on to a beach as the tide was receding and discovered this old and empty oyster shell covered in barnacles. I thought it was very photogenic and put it up on a wall to take a couple of shots. The "ghostly" sailing boats made a good background, I thought. Try viewing large for detail. Thanks for looking. The PiP shows a closer version. Enjoy your Friday...........and have a good weekend.

Calm Waters

12 Sep 2023 19 26 94
Calm waters and some nice reflections near the Langstone Harbour sailing club. Taken during a quick walk last Tuesday morning before it started to rain. Best viewed large, on black. Thanks for looking!

Crab Spider (+PiP)

06 Sep 2023 30 41 97
I've seen several crab spiders in my garden this year and they seemed to really like the Coreopsis flowers. This one is particularly well camouflaged. I noticed the one in the PiP on top of one of my compost bins.......and it wasn't impressed at having its photo taken..!! Sadly they all seem to have disappeared now but..........more next year, hopefully.

Jasmine

Some flowers from my garden taken back in July. Jasmine in this shot, plus two PiPs with Honeysuckle and St John's Wort.

Landing approach.............

Taken in my garden............the bee is about to land on one of my Salvia flowers.

Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth, Hampshire

06 Sep 2023 23 26 115
Taken last Wednesday afternoon. To the right of the tower is the Gunwharf Quays shopping centre and in the background is the Naval Dockyard. On the post in the foreground is a sticker made by the street artist "My DogSighs". Best viewed large if you have the time. Thanks for looking.

First Signs of Autumn

08 Sep 2023 22 30 78
Despite the heatwave we're experiencing at the moment, the first signs of Autumn are becoming apparent, slowly but surely. This was taken at a small nature reserve a short drive from where I live yesterday afternoon.

Paper Umbrellas (+PiP)

24 Aug 2023 16 26 73
I was clearing out my "props box" a few weeks back when I found a box containing several paper umbrellas..........intended for use in cocktail glasses and the like. Most were damaged but I managed to salvage a few to take photos of. This shot and the one in the PiP were the results. I hope you all have a lovely Friday and are looking forward to a splendid weekend.............thanks for looking!

Feather

06 Sep 2023 18 22 59
I spotted this in my garden yesterday afternoon...........it was trapped in a piece of spider's web against the back of the house. I thought it looked really lovely in the sunshine. After taking the photo I added a texture and a vignette in post processing. I'm pretty sure it's a neck feather from one of the wood pigeons that visit our garden bird table.

Packed Lunch (+PiP)

05 Sep 2023 17 28 80
Spotted this spider in my lilac tree this morning.........in the process of wrapping up his lunch......a juicy wasp! Better viewed large. In the PiP there is a shot of an adjacent web.

A visit from the Dentist

25 Jul 2023 29 46 101
A rather clever piece of street art I found in Exmouth, Devon. Edit: Thanks to Boro (below) for letting me know the artists name is Gary Cook (aka GARf)

Sailing boats........Topsham, Devon (+(PiP)

21 Apr 2023 18 30 75
Looking out over the River Exe Estuary from Topsham Quay. Another view from the Quay in the PiP. Thanks for looking.

Anemone

02 Sep 2023 24 26 98
Taken in my garden. I've been testing a new (to me) camera and lens lately, which I bought as a very lightweight combination to carry around occasionally. The lens is not a dedicated macro lens, but it has a "macro function" activated by pressing a button on the side. It actually does a pretty good job! I hope you're all having a good weekend.
