A Cluster of Baby Spiders

A Cluster of Baby Spiders
My wife spotted these on Wednesday evening clustered on the vertical side of our garden waste wheely-bin.

I quickly grabbed my macro gear and got a few shots. If you view this one large, you'll see that they're held against the bin by a fine web which stops them from falling off. It must be stronger than it looks because they are still there today. I'm really surprised the birds haven't found them yet..!!

I love these groups of spiderlings. If you touch the group lightly, they all scatter outwards in different directions and then regroup.

You're obviously familiar with these annual "gatherings" Amelia...........I think they're really fascinating.

Glad you like the photo...........and thanks for your visit and comments.

I normally find at least one of these clusters in my garden every year............but not usually on the waste bins.........they're normally much better hidden away.

I'm pleased you like my photo Güni..............praise for my macro shots coming from you always makes me happy!

I'm not sure my wife wanted to get close enough to make me a necklace :-)))

A superb capture, especially viewed large Keith.
Nature is such a wonderful thing, however, the side of a bin may prove to be a problem later!.
Interested to know how they progress.

Glad you like this one Roger...........I normally get at least one shot of spiderlings a year in the garden, but this is the first one on a wheely bin.

I checked this morning and most of them have disappeared........we had a lot of heavy rain last night, so it's possible they were swept away.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Thanks Eunice..........glad you like them. The official name for a gathering of spiders (in this country at least) is actually what I used in the title......a "cluster", but "swarm" seems pretty appropriate too!

Hatched, will the spider take them on her back? Don't know if all spider species do it, but it is a lovely nursery there !

Keith Burton club has replied to Xata club
These have already hatched Isabel............I. think the eggs are carried between the back pair of legs, but once they're laid the mother doesn't stay around.

Maybe depending on the species…

This is fascinating to see and I think we need progress reports. they look like many a garden birds dinner

Keith Burton club has replied to Colin Ashcroft club
Glad you think so Colin. Sadly most of them have disappeared we've had some heavy rain over the last two night and the side of a wheely bin is not the most sheltered spot.

I usually find several of these little gatherings each year, but this was my first this year..........and the only one so far. I think the spiders have been troubled by the unusually wet weather as I've hardly seen any in the garden.

Glad you like this photo though............and thanks for your visit and comments.
