Nigella Seed Heads

Nigella Seed Heads
Taken indoors in natural light. I used a sheet of brown card as a background and added a texture and vignette in processing. I'm not overly happy with the reflections on the bottle, but I don't think they detract from the photo too much.

Probably best viewed large..........

xenophora, Jean Paul Capdeville, Narvik 08, Aschi "Freestone" and 21 other people have particularly liked this photo

A lovely image Keith I'm not big into processing but could you use the burn brush to subdue the reflection, you could experiment with a card to reduce the light reaching the bottle, enjoy your day

You chose a beautiful background colour for this shot, and the addition of the texture and slight vignette works really well. I like the reflections on the bottle personally Keith and the seed heads are gorgeous! I have some lying in the wet along the path, so good to see that you rescued yours from the dreary weather.

Another very successful still life :-)

Thank you Rosa...........I have lots of sheets of different coloured card and they're very handy for backgrounds indoors (and sometimes outside). Adding a texture is pretty easy to do (I have a lot of pre-sets with my software) and it's fun to play around with different effects!

I'm really pleased you like this one (including the reflections). I picked the seed heads around a week ago and they've been indoors drying out.

It was confirmed on our local news this morning that July was one of the wettest on record for southern England, and that August is not expected to be much better.

We deserve a good autumn Keith, so I'm looking forward to that. I wish the rain would stop, but I couldn't cope with the extremely high temperatures of southern Europe.

We do indeed....but I won't hold my breath. We're with you on the subject of extremely high temperatures........we rarely go out when it's that hot..!!

Absolutely super still life Keith, the choice of background colour was just perfect and the texture adds even more depth to the colour, The seed heads are lovely and the bottle a near perfect container as for the reflections they don't bother me as using natural light can be nigh on impossible to avoid them or at times shadows, Fabulous!

As always.........thank you for your kind and generous comments Roger. I'm really pleased you like this one (including the reflections).

I like to have something to do when the weather is not suitable for being outside and this sort of thing fits the bill nicely.

Hy Keith - With us youngster in the countryside.
But where does the name "Jungfer im Grünen" come from? The name comes from a legend according to which two lovers were forbidden to love each other by their parents. Gretl and Hans missed each other so much that they turned into flowers. Before Schmacht, Gretl became a maiden in the countryside and Hans became a waykeeper, which is also called Hansl on the way in some regions.

aNNa schramm club has added
The seeds of the Jungfer im Grünen are edible and taste intensely of woodruff when they are finely ground. They are therefore particularly suitable for sweet dishes, but are also often used to decorate and flavor cream cheese. However, only ever eat small amounts, as the seeds also contain the poisonous alkaloid damascenine.

I always use a few seeds when making garlic butter

I didn't know the seed were edible................I'm not sure I'd risk it though..........being poisoned doesn't appeal to me. More great information..............every day is a school day on Ipernity!

Thanks again.
