The View from the Salt Shack

The View from the Salt Shack
Taken last Sunday when my wife and I met up with my oldest daughter and some friends at the Salt Shack Café adjacent to Northney Marina on Hayling Island, Hampshire.

It was raining when we left home and when we arrived I left my camera in the car. When we left the café an hour or so later the rain had stopped and so I grabbed a quick shot using my smartphone camera. It had started to rain again, by the time we walked back to the car, so this was my photography for the day :-))

Best viewed large I think. Have a good weekend everyone.

Thank you so much David...............it's kind of you to say so. I rarely use my phone for photography, but sometimes it's handy to have it to hand.

Wonderful sky and a well composed marina seen Keith
a nice selection of boat ages and styles with true colours,
I like the great atmosphere, which completes a lovely image.

I discovered the Marina had a decent café last year Roger and it's only a 10 minute drive away. I've never taken photos there before though. I shall have to do a bit more exploring in the summer (assuming we get one). A lot of the local area is out-of-bounds to the general public though............but who knows!

One thing about these little yacht harbours Keith - they always look cheerful with there many colours and lines. I too take full advantage with the camera when I am at such places. Nice work here.

Have a good weekend. Herb

I must admit the technology nowadays is absolutely amazing. Before all this digital technology, you could only take a picture with a camera and then you had to wait days before you actually got the prints back from the printers. 9 times out of 10, the picture wasn't exactly how you'd wanted it to turn out, but the time and place was long gone by then. I must admit my mobile does take very good photos, and my mini camera isn't too heavy to carry around.

This is a lovely picture of the marina and the sky looks fine, you'd never know that it was raining before and afterwards.

Phone cameras have come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years, but I still like to use a "proper" camera,,,,,,,,,they just feel so much better to use and hold.

There was nothing worse than sending a roll of film off to be processed and being excited when it arrived back..........only to find that the photos were all rubbish! A feeling I well remember........and it cost a fortune too!

Glad you like this one though Jenny and thanks as always for commenting.

Quite apart from the excellence of the lens in your Samsung, I've learnt something from this image Keith; masts appear to be a bit bendy!
I really like that grand old girl in the central foreground, not only is she anchoring the image very well she's an absolute beauty.

Glad you like the photo Maggie.........even with the bendy masts. I hadn't really noticed it until you pointed it out!

I'm not sure if if was the perspective or something to do with the wide angle lens of the camera.

A nice cafe by the marina I hope. I think that photographs with rain are much more atmospheric. In my car there is no lack of a camera and a raincoat.

Thanks Anton..............and I agree, there is sometimes a real feeling of freshness and the colours seem more vibrant after rain.

It was unusual for me not to have a "proper" camera immediately to hand, but it turned out OK in the end.

I often wonder why I carry a camera around. Smart phone photos are such good quality these days. It looks a tad chilly here, Keith, with the ruffled water and the grey skies. Hope you enjoyed the meal at the cafe.

Keith Burton club has replied to Amelia club
I know exactly how you feel Amelia...........but I do like the feel of a "proper" camera! Nowadays though I generally only carry one camera and one lens as I can't handle the weight anymore.

Glad you like this photo...........and yes it was pretty chilly, but at least it stopped raining long enough for a photo, which is always a bonus.

We just had coffee and cakes,...........and they were delicious :-))
