Little Egret

Little Egret
Spotted this beautiful bird perching in a tree above the Mill Pond at Langstone Harbour, Hampshire. This is a popular spot for Egrets, there is nearly always some there. You need a long lens though as they're some distance away. I took this at the very limit of my 100-400 zoom lens and still needed to crop the image.

Günter Klaus, Jörg, trester88, Jan and 16 other people have particularly liked this photo

Well done! I love the punk hairdo, apart fron that it looks elegant siitng there!
I often have to crop with only 280mm... But you wouldn't want to carry around a 600m lens;-)

Glad you like it Gudrun........thank you.

Even with using micro-four thirds kit...........I'm finding a couple of my lenses a bit heavy. I try and go out with just one camera and one lens nowadays!

These are so nice to view Keith. I seldom see them up this way and was first swept of my feet with them whilst camping in Normandy many years back. A great capture from you in the manner that I have come to expect. Well done.

A little cooler now and so much better to sit here on the computer or even go out to get more photos. Cheers. Herb

I remember these were quite rare once............and now they seem to be quite common. I think they're really lovely...........and I'm pleased you like this shot.

Much cooler here today............we had about 4 hours of rain this morning which has freshened things up a bit. I think that's the lot for a while now though.

My very elderly iMac is really struggling in the heat (a bit like me)........I have to shut it down every hour or so or it crashes. Luckily I've just taken delivery of a Macbook Pro laptop, so I've just got to transfer everything across to get it up and running. I just have to find time to do it........and a day cool enough to do it on :-)

You have managed a lovely picture of this one Keith. I saw just one along the River Stour last week, but didn't get a shot worth showing. I expect there were others somewhere nearby, but I didn't see them.

Thank you Rosa.............there are sometimes as many as 20 of these in the trees at Langstone Harbour. The only problem is that they are so far away most of the time. Glad you like this one..!!

Wow! That’s Amazing! I have never seen one in real life. Egret used to appear regularly as a crossword solution. I used to do a crossword every day.

They used to be rare in the UK, but not now. They're especially common near where I live. Glad you like it Jan.

I'm currently working my way through a book of Evening Standard Cryptic crosswords. I try to do two or three a week................makes my brain hurt sometime :-))

You're quite right of course Güni............and I'm glad you approve of this one!

There are numerous Egrets, Heron and other bird that regularly visit this mill pond, but their roosts are just out of reach of my longest lens which is very frustrating. There is no way to get closer as it is a protected nature reserve.
