Lily

Lily
As I couldn't go out yesterday as we had workmen in to do some fence repairs, I decided to try some more tabletop photography. For this one I "borrowed" a lily flower head from a bunch of my wife's flowers. I used a large piece of black card as the background and a white insert from an old framed photo to frame the flower.

I really need to sort of some decent background material........card is OK, but it still reflects light a bit and is prone to scratches. Also in close up images you can sometimes see the texture in it as well. I think some sort of black velvet material would be better and I intend to investigate that.

I also need to sort out some proper lighting. This was made using natural light from the window and a white piece of card as a reflector. It works but is unwieldy.

Actually, what I really need is a home studio :-)))

Anyway, hope you like this one. I have some more to share in due course, but don't want to bore you.

Go large for best effect. Thanks for looking.

It's beautiful Keith, love it. I have never tried the velvet. Tried black silk once but it came out too shiny, and yes the black card is not always good. I have in the past filled in the background by hand with a paint filler software lol. But that is very time consuming.
Have a great day !!!

It's great! I like the way the frame is at an angle; dead straight and it would have detracted form the bloom, I think!

Until I read how you did this, I thought it might have been done digitally. It's very artistic and impressive Keith. Yes, velvet would be perfect I would think, although you could do little to better this shot! I look forward to seeing more. Your varied pictures are never a bore!! Beautiful!
I get my second jab on Sunday :-) Take care and have a good Wednesday.

Glad you liked it Rosa.........it was an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. I'm afraid my digital skills are nowhere good enough to do it any other way :-)

Glad to hear you got your second jab! Light at the end of the tunnel..!!

Hi Keith. A great bit of still-life here which as you know is a little side hobby of mine too. Your lighting antics sound very close to my own - invariably using available light by one window and then reflectors to balance it out. I have also faced the same dilemma with background materials. I have some black velvety type of material but it never seems just right. -Well done here.

Keep safe. Herb

Beautifully and immaculately done. I tend to use the kitchen table and light from the nearby window. Sometimes I use card but I'm often dissatisfied with the result. Velvet is good and cloth but then it needs to be stored carefully and ironed to remove any creases. I'm a lazy so and so.

Thank you Jean........I'm pleased you like it. It's good fun trying this sort of thing, especially if it works out OK.

Reading your narratives every day............I would say you were anything but lazy Jean :-))
