Shadow and Light

Shadow and Light
I took this poignant image in my local cemetery yesterday afternoon. The light was quite harsh and I considered lightening up the shadows but eventually decided to leave them quite dark. Although I'm not religious I quite like visiting cemeteries - they are usually very peaceful places. Our one is quite old and part of it is now managed as a wildflower meadow. I got quite a few images I was happy with including some Fungi, one of which I've posted along with this one.

You have captured this great in your own way Keith. Love the cross shadow here and in fact the high contrast colours all seem to add to the overall flavour. - I quite agree with you re cemeteries being tranquil places of peace and often wonderful light and so I often visit our local ones including one quite close with the ashes of my parents, overlooked by large trees, full of shadows and character. In late Autumn and Winter, these are fantastic places to venture into in the early morning when patches of mist are lit up by the sun causing wonderful beams.

The light is stunning and the shadow of the cross. Fife has some lovely old graveyards and like you I enjoy wandering round. We go in for quite a lot of skull and crossbone decoration in the older ones though which is not to everyone's taste.

Sometimes what you originally get is the best Keith, as in this case. It looks so beautiful with the shadow of the cross. I am not religious either, but I do like cemeteries. We can learn so much from the writing on the older stones. Your picture here does evoke a feeling of sadness....someone's loved one.

A very moving image really well captured Keith, the harsh light and strong shadows are perfect for the image and help to highlight the simple cross,
An image to remember without doubt.

It's perfect the way it is, because that's life: part light, part darkness. I, too, like cemeteries and am not religious (despite my upbringing). However, that doesn't men I don't feel spirits and powers higher than my own, especially in a peaceful place.

Comme la précédente, cette belle photo invite à la méditation. Vous n'êtes pas religieux dites vous mais peut être êtes vous agnostique ? Amitiés. Jean paul

Definitely atheist Jean Paul :-) I just appreciate beauty wherever I find it. Although I'm not religious, I always try and respect other people beliefs.

Glad you like the image and thanks for stopping by!
