Rock Formations, Skokholm

Rock Formations, Skokholm
Taken on Skokholm Island off the coast of Wales.

Best viewed large, on black. Thank you.

Please excuse my haphazard and brief comments over the past few days.............I've been without a computer while I had some upgrades done and I had to use my iPad, which takes ages.

Special K, Nouchetdu38, , Annemarie and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

I was very intrigued by your pictures from this Island, so looked it up. It looks amazing and quite a small island. Do you reach it by boat? I love this shot of the unusual rock formations and the low angle and look forward to more bird pictures when you are back in action with the computer.

Thanks Rosa. It's a magical place to visit - about a mile long and half a mile wide. You can only get there by boat. There are no day visitors, but you can book a stay from 3 days to a week. This time we only went for 3 days, last year we went for a week, but had to stay 11 days as it was too rough to get a boat in to pick us up! You can book a single room in the cottage but the rest of the accommodation is sharing (mainly in cowsheds converted to twin rooms). If you want to do a day trip you've have to go to the neighbouring island of Skomer - also by boat but not bookable in advance so you have to get there very early (0500ish) and take your chances. The boats leave from Martin's Haven on the South Pembrokshire coast - which is pretty remote. Here's a link if you haven't already found it: www.welshwildlife.org/skomer-skokholm/skokholm

The rocks look picturesque and attractive seeming to grow out of the turf! The wide format looks good!

Great shapes! Amazing how the natural elements of wind and weather sculp the rocks.
