Old Man's Beard

Old Man's Beard
Clematis vitalba.......also called Traveller's Joy.

The French name for old man's beard is 'herbe aux gueux' – the beggar's or rascal's herb. This is a reference to its use by beggars; they used its acrid sap to irritate the skin to give it a sore and ulcerated look - in order to induce sympathy in, and perhaps a donation from, passers by!

OHHHHH!!! I love it!!! What a gorgeous macro, Keith. Love the details. Love your choice of dof, and your composition too. The soft and feathery appearance of these seeds is just magnificent. I envy you as I've not yet found any clematis to photograph like this. Thank you for the inspiring photography, this is so beautiful!

Thanks so much for your comments on my furry mushroom! :) Believe me, I was totally blown away that I found the little guy! The first one that I spotted was actually disintegrating but I couldn't even tell until I looked on the computer. I happened to notice a few similar smudges nearby and was able to make out the one I photographed as a mushroom with what appeared to be fuzz on it! YES my eyesight close up is totally incredible. It is my superpower. I am horribly nearsighted but I'll never consider lasik because having the ability to see at this fine level is a total gift to me. And the fact that I'm passionate about macro photography...how lucky am I! :D Recognizing this is one reason I so love to share pictures of the itty-bitty variety. Even the passionate like you cannot see the teensy things to focus on, so I can bring you--whose photography and skills I so adore and admire--on a macro ride at an even deeper level. How cool is that? :D *high five*

It's the best old man's beard I have ever seen ;) Interesting notes. I didn't know that!
You have presented it so beautifully with soft colours yet so detailed!

Thanks Rosa.................it grows pretty much everywhere in the countryside round here. This is the first shot I've taken that I've been really happy with. Glad you like it too.
