In Canada their nesting grounds are disappearing so more and more are turning up in cities. Maybe the same thing is happening in the UK, too.

They've always been here John.......especially at this time of year. This was taken at a reserve, but they are quite common elsewhere too.

I haven't seen any, yet, I guess I need to get out more! These two look a little bit different to the ones in the western US. Just looked them up and there are several sub-species. Yours have a much whiter chest. I'm sure we have the Western, fairly sure also the smaller Dusky and/or Cackling. As you see, I'm not a birder! www.ipernity.com/doc/1227338/41995792
