A long day trip down to the Francis Marion National Forest to photograph native orchids. Thanks to some well-placed hints from my friend, Jeff Jackson, I managed to locate a large population of Cleistesiopsis divaricata or Large Rosebud orchid as well as some other showy wildflowers.

The first, this year, of my Calopogon tuberosus or Common Grass-pink orchids (white form) to bloom. Sarracenia flava or Yellow Pitcher Plant in the background. Hopefully, many more orchid flowers to come over the next few weeks.

Day trip to a couple of upstate South Carolina's Heritage Preserves for some early Summer wildflowers. Lots of color but no big surprises. I saw a couple of native orchid species as well as some carnivorous plant species. There's something blooming up there almost any time of the year.

About 4 days ago, these Grass-pink orchids (white form) began to bloom in my bog garden. The typical, pink/purple ones are done for this year -- just a couple of them still hanging on.
I had rescued a couple of these plants about 10 years ago from a ditch widening in southeastern North Carolina. They have managed to multiply quite well over the years.
We had a deluge of rain last night, and I thought they would have been trashed, but they came out OK. They are at their peak today, and I'm quite pleased with the show...
