Avenue of Beeches

This avenue of beeches is along the B3082 which is the main route between Wimborne and Blandford. There were originally 365 trees along one side and 366 along the other side. The National Trust care for them as part of the Kingston Lacy Estate and have so far replaced some seventy of them with hornbeams, which are just as attractive but are better able to withstand the disadvantages of being alongside a busy road. Originally planted by William John Bankes for his mother, Frances. Our thoughts are with Andy Rodker at this time and wish him a speedy recovery. I seem to remember that this is a road he knows well.

Nederland - Limmen, Hortus Bulborum

The Hortus Bulborum is the only museum garden in the world where you can find about 4.500 different tulip, hyacinth, daffodil and other bulbous cultivars, species and varieties in bloom. Every spring the garden transforms into a treasure trove full of dazzling colours, beautiful shapes and overwhelming fragrances. Hortus Bulborum offers about 2.650 varieties and species of historical tulips; among them the famous Duc van Tol Red and Yellow ; the oldest known cultivar from 1595. This tulip laid the foundation of commercial bulb growing in the Netherlands. Apart from tulips over 1.100 different varieties and species of daffodils can be admired, as well as more than 100 varieties of both crocuses and hyacinths and 15 of the Fritillaries imperalis. The aim of Hortus Bulborum is to maintain these cultivars and safeguard them for the future generations. 2021 visit: Although the Hortus was officially closed due to the corona pandemic, the gate at the back of the garden was open. When I asked one of the volunteers - busy taking care of the flowers - I got permission to take a few quick pictures. Unlike during our other visits, the daffodils were still in full bloom.

Yellow Tulip

I noticed this tulip in my neighbours garden................it's stem was broken and with her permission I decided to give it a new lease of (virtual) life. Photographed on my tabletop. Black card as a background and natural light through the window. Go large for best effect.........thank you.

metalic polaroid - darkflower

printed off my phone with the Polaroid Lab. So much fun to use. [I hesitate to post scans of my polaroids because my system isn't as good as Robert Frank's! I got the color fairly close to what it is, but the border is completely wrong. Should be very dark purple. Ah well. It is what it is.]
