Twisted Trunks

I assume the wicked coastal winds have played a part in shaping these what I guess from the berries are Rowan trees (Mountain Ash)

Nothing like the Rowan in my reference book but I don't doubt your description as they could well have distorted by environmental factors. They make a great subject.

Spectacular twisted trees. Environmental stress is no doubt a factor--botanists even use a German word, "Krummholz" (twisted wood) for such trees. It's very common near tree line around here.
