Shade 0319 4681

Shade 0319 4681
A retired trampoline mat finds a new use. With the aid of stakes, cable ties and the back fence it becomes a shade for lettuce and rocket. The lettuce clearly tastes sweeter now and I think the rocket is better too. This shot shows the light in the middle of the day. I got the idea of using the mat as shade cloth from noticing that the lawn grew more quickly under the trampoline than in comparable other places. February 2019.

Hi Graham

Interesting!!

When I was a student, I remember doing a similar experiment with beans. In this case the ones in the shade grew taller, but they were weak, and did not survive.

Best Wishes, HFF, and a good weekend

Interesting. This erected in late summer when the plants were established. The lettuce plants are mostly flowering and seeding now. There are some other leafy plants growing behind them. I'll add another comment find out what my wife has planted and when I see some result.

Have you worked in plant biology or in farming?
