000/112 emergency call

000/112 emergency call
339. - 10.02.2024 - European Emergency Call Day 112
Triple zero (000) is the Australian standard emergency number, while 112 is an international standard emergency number. Dialling 112 directs you to the same triple zero (000) call service.

European 112 Day is to raise awareness for the Europe-wide availability and the advantages of the European emergency call 112. They chose 11 February since the date includes the telephone number (11/2). A wide variety of events take place around Europe every year to celebrate European 112 Day.

Thanks George. I didn't know about 112, only about our 000. When we were in the UK it was 999... 999 is the official emergency number for the United Kingdom, but calls are also accepted on the European Union emergency number, 112. All calls are answered by 999 operators, and are always free. Approximately 35 million 999/112 calls are made in the UK each year, with 74% from mobiles and 26% from landlines in 2022. Wikipedia

In the mid naughties when I was working on installing and commissioning Telstra's 3G mobile bases we had to test each base for 000 and for 112. (We had a special script to start our conversation with the 000 telephonist so they knew what we were doing, so we weren't mistaken for real emergency calls or hoax calls).

Yes it was. The work took me to various places across southern Qld and northern NSW. It was when I started using a digital camera, either a P&S work one or a basic one which a daughter was going to bin. I didn't get much in Qld though I spent a third of the time in Brisbane and the two Coasts. These albums have what I've put on line. (Don't take 'date taken' as accurate unless it shows late 2006 or anytime 2007.

The above links was a brilliant job. As I mentioned somewhere in the photos it was like work I had done when working for PMG/Telecom in the 70s & 80s but didn't take any photos of. Overall the only area of NSW I never worked in was the South Coast beyond Nowra.

I've added a google maps reference to the site label photo you faved so you can see where it is.
