Ceci n'est pas un parc à bestiaux

In fact, there are no stockyards anywhere nearby, and haven't been since 1995. Stock Yards Village opened in 2014.

That is a slaughterhouse in back, though. I suppose Slaughter House Village didn't have a ring to it.

I envy you the fish, Jean. We're a long way from the ocean so ocean fish are less than fresh when they get here. .And as you probably know, Jean, Canadian fish stocks have been ravaged anyway by (non-Scottish) Europeans, and overfishing seems to be a worldwide problem. I suppose I could resign myself, though, to a lifetime of bean curd and hoisin sauce.

Lake Erie perch are great, though.

Farmed fish, of course, we should all avoid, especially tilapia; female tilapia are shot full of testosterone after spawning to change them into males and prevent overbreeding.

I've only got as far as not eating veal, Keith. Oh -- and things that are boiled alive etc. My sense of cruelty is muted, I guess. I am against cruelty to people, though, which in my experience seems to be a minority opinion.

The flowers on the roundabout are part of our annual summer custom of having flowers everywhere. We spend too much time looking at snow.
