Smoke from the Apple fire, over 50 miles away...

The fire started friday afternoon; the latest reports i've seen (sunday mid-morning) are saying 15,000 acres and 12% contianment. The wind finally died down, which will help the firefighters get it under control; up here, today the smoke isn't nearly as bad.

Gila Silberman, Billathon, neira-Dan and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

The lurid light effect really brings home the terrifying impact ...

This was around 4:30 in the afternoon; the sun was a dull red disc barely peeking through the smoky clouds. I took the dogs out again a few hours later - the smoke was worse, the ash flying around looked like snow flurries, but the sunset! Deep reds and purples and oranges - it looked like the sky was on fire.
