Gila National Forest NM Emory Pass (# 0813)

Gila National Forest NM Emory Pass (# 0813)
From the Emory Pass overlook (alt 8228 ft) on NM-152, looking east. The scatter of buildings in the lower center of the picture with the road going through is the town of Kingston, a short-lived silver mining town of the late 1800's. The green patch surrounded by desert mountains, to the right of center, is probably Caballo Reservoir on the Rio Grande (see later picture of Caballo).

Never been that way--looks like a nice route. Only time I drove thru Silver City I came up on 180 from Deming. (40 years ago with my then-gf while in grad school...sigh. ;)

Silver City and the whole west central area of NM is one of my favorite parts of the state, lots of interesting places including cliff dwelling and old mining towns. And the people are friendly.
