London Westminster Big Ben (#0232)
In support of our UK brethren at this time of a physical attack, a posting of a picture of Big Ben taken last December, from the Westminster Bridge.
As I was trying to get this picture, I struck up a conversation with a young Asian woman who was also trying to find a good angle for a photo – she was a student immigrant who was quite moved by being able to experience Parliament and what it stood for. She was just one example of the high number of people out on a chilly December night who, from their behaviors and comments, seemed to be there to observe and honor an enduring symbol of democracy. Considering the political and physical attacks on democratic institutions that have been high for the past couple of years, it is important to not let such attacks diminish our active support and involvement in an egalitarian concept of governance.
