Cape Disappointment lighthouse (#1221)
The lighthouse at Cape Disappointment, which was built in 1856. See also the discussion of the North Head lighthouse that is just 2 miles away (picture #1218).
The hike to the lighthouse is an interesting path with quite a bit of elevation change. The last third or so of the path is paved for use by Coast Guard attendant who is in a booth on the other side of the lighthouse and monitoring the bar, the section where the river meets the ocean.
