Palm Springs El Nino Jan1x (#0333)

Palm Springs El Nino Jan1x (#0333)
Two similar photos, I liked both for different reasons and couldn't decided which to use, so have posted both. This is from the Palm Canyon Wash levee looking northwest, past the windmills along I-10, to the snow in the San Bernardino Mountains. Marginally visible on the left side of the picture is a construction crane in downtown Palm Springs.

Let's hope it's a drought buster! Our local weather said we got more snow in the Sierras locally in December than we'd gotten all last season, so hopefully the trend continues--

Got your waders handy? (from the perpetual pessimist...)

Bring on the waders! Our local lake dried up last year--completely. And my nephew drove all the way down I-5 a couple of weeks back and was appalled at all the dead orchards. They're selling things like almond firewood now.

The orchards along I-5 are a more complex issue than just the drought. My understanding, from various readings, is that the west side of the valley has always been relatively dubious land in terms of both the quality of the soil and the drainage, and that orchards were not a particularly wise crop for that specific area. But then the whole issue of making an agriculture mecca out of semi-arid land has never been worked out particularly well.

Well, an adequate and reliable water supply is a _sine qua non_--

That's the problem, it's not a sink... (bad latin/geology pun).
