SF Mid-Market (1326)

SF Mid-Market (1326)
A block over from Market Square (Twitter), is a relatively non-descript large building with some government offices, the headquarters of Uber, and the San Francisco office of Rocketfuel. Most already know about Uber, so I won't go into it here. Rocketfuel? It's descriptions sound very trendy hi-tech speak "We unlock the power of artificial intelligence to make digital advertising better.....shared vision: to be a disruptive and indispensable marketing platform for brands." So these are the people responsible for all those internet robots making comments about how their aunt made over $40,000 last week and bought a new Fiat. And they share a building with Uber ... which makes complete sense.

No matter how I might react to the overall culture of San Francisco if I ever spent any time there, I think the tech people would really get on my nerves.

They get on the nerves of everyone there (and me). It's a libertarian-based aesthetic that rejects any thinking of community and shared values (but not of 'sharing' as in ripping-off). It would be an interesting cultural study to try to piece together how the South Bay mindset found itself at home in what was once progressive SF. BUT, the Gold Rush had a similar mindset and then the port/union battles came from similar forces. And, I'll readily that embedded in the politics that made SF a gay center was a strong libertarian component.

Arrrggh! "...to be a disruptive and indispensable marketing platform..." Such arrogance - and that red flag for impending B.S. - "disruptive!"

Life is being converted into branding. I keep hoping that someday the young will wake up and see where they're being led.
