SF Coit Tower WPA mural (1275)

SF Coit Tower WPA mural (1275)
As the plaque describes, this mural (spanning to adjacent photo) portrays the diversity, as well as the harsh effects, of the California economy from mining to agriculture to fishing to hydroelectric. This is one of the more profound murals in terms of the critique of the effect of industry on workers. The murals were of the Coit Towers Public Works of Art Project, a New Deal program of the 1930's. Considering that the murals were painted during the Great Depression, it is not surprising that the imagery reflects a critique of capitalism.

These are outstanding New deal era murals. I've never been inside Coit Tower.

There's an album of the murals on that other photo-sharing site:

Thanks for the link. I knew the Coit Tower had murals, but didn't know how extensive they were.
