SF Coit Tower WPA mural (1275)

SF Coit Tower WPA mural (1275)
As the plaque describes, this mural (spanning to adjacent photo) portrays the diversity, as well as the harsh effects, of the California economy from mining to agriculture to fishing to hydroelectric. This is one of the more profound murals in terms of the critique of the effect of industry on workers. The murals were of the Coit Towers Public Works of Art Project, a New Deal program of the 1930's. Considering that the murals were painted during the Great Depression, it is not surprising that the imagery reflects a critique of capitalism.
