Indio Old Town (0703)
Part of a mural describing US Route 99 and its role in the development of the area. The mural extends around the building on the left. Greater detail about the mural can be found in Clark's Truck Stop (1997).
When looking at the mural I noticed that the people in the foreground in the mural were European-ancestry white, which seemed strange given that Indio is 75% Hispanic and the town has been an Hispanic enclave since the early 1900's -- see detail with adjacent photos. The mural is part of the Historic Mural Project, an effort to stimulate revitalization of downtown Indio.
