Denver, Co downtown Triangle gay bar (4620)

Denver, Co downtown Triangle gay bar (4620)
Site of the former Triangle gay bar in downtown Denver. Though the bar had a long history and was well-respected in parts of the gay community, just as is happening in cities across the U.S., gay areas are disappearing.

Assimilation?

Though assimilation (and the disappearance of a gay culture) is an issue, I suspect in this case it was mostly economics. When I first went to the Triangle in the late 90's, Broadway (the street here) basically marked the end of downtown and the start of an affordable residential area that had a large gay presence. The neighborhood is being torn down and replaced with more up-scale housing, so there's not a local population to draw from. Same thing is happening to many other gay neighborhoods across the country (including Chicago).
