Concrete seems to hold up well in California. I had somebody tell me once that there are several hundred miles of concrete streets in Los Angeles that haven't been paved since the concrete was first poured in the 1920s. I don't know the truth in that.

Considering the condition of many of the neighborhood streets in LA, I'd believe that. It's probably true in the hills, since repaving those streets is particularly difficult.
