Globe, AZ mining 3358a

Globe, AZ is basically in central Arizona, about 90 miles east of Phoenix. The first time I went through Globe was in the late 1990's and it was the first place where I saw the destruction that massive stripmining operations can cause. At that point the depressing sight had been counter-balanced by the efforts of historic preservation in downtown Globe. The area that I refer to as Globe, is actually several small towns that run together. There are varying levels of preservation of the historic districts, and the historic district of Globe looked to be having a promising revitalization when I was there the first time -- this time it looked like that revitalization wasn't working and I have no pictures of it. Most of the adjacent pictures are actually of Miami, which is a few miles west of Globe.
