East Yorkshire Scarborough & District open toppers on the Scarborough seafront service – 19 Aug 1987 (54-26)
Wednesday 19 August 1987 – Approaching the Corner Café and terminus of the seafront service at the North Bay, Scarborough. The Corner Café was well known with holidaymakers and was a name which adorned many a bus destination blind over the years. Some years ago it was all redeveloped and a block of shops and low rise apartments now occupy the site.

The seafront service which links the North Bay and South Bay had its origins with United Automobile Services but in September 1986, when under National Bus Company ownership, the southern part of the United operating area along with the garages at Scarborough and Pickering were transferred to East Yorkshire Motor Services which created a new subsidiary named Scarborough and District. The seafront service saw greater competition after deregulation when a number of other operators began working on the route.

As we arrived there were two other buses at the bus stop. The leading bus was an Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VR which left before I had thought to note which it was. The bus behind it was 603 (OTY 403M), a Park Royal bodied Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R that had been new to Sunderland & District in March 1974 as a normal covered top bus.
