Grey-Green Van Hool Alizee in Whitehall, London – 22 Apr 1993 (190-30)

Grey-Green Van Hool Alizee in Whitehall, London – 22 Apr 1993 (190-30)
Thursday 22 April 1993 (approx 1630) – A Grey-Green Coaches (T Cowie PLC) Van Hool Alizee coach passing the Cenotaph in Parliament Street/Whitehall, London. The gates of Downing Street can be seen to the right of the Cenotaph all of which is somewhat overshadowed by the blue covering of a Government building undergoing remedial work.

The coach might be carrying an E-KYW registration in which case might be one of two Volvo B10Ms (E899-900 KYW) or one of four Scania K92CRB (E895-898 KYW) all added to the fleet in 1988. The position of the front wheel and black rectangular badge beneath the first side window suggests Scania. As well as the aforementioned vehicles the 1988 intake of coaches also included four Duple 320 bodied Volvo B10Ms registered E891-894. Quite a variety.

In the background (to the right of the white van) is Grey Green 129 (F129 PHM), one of the thirty Alexander RV bodied Volvo B10M-50 Citybus double deckers (numbered 115-144) delivered in readiness of Grey Green taking on the London Regional Transport contract to work service 24 (Hampstead Heath to Pimlico) in November 1988. Service 24 was the first central London LRT (London Regional Transport) route to be put out to tender. In the earlier days of the London contracts the ‘all red livery’ edict did not apply and the buses employed carried the operating company’s own livery.
