King Alfred 595 LCG in Winchester - 1 Jan 2004 (519-7A)
Thursday 1 January 2004 – ‘Friends of King Alfred Buses’ (FoKAB) Running Day at Winchester (and surrounding area)
Preserved former King Alfred Motor Services 595 LCG, a Park Royal bodied AEC Bridgemaster 3B2RA, one of two such vehicles bought new in 1964 – both of which are preserved by the ‘Friends of King Alfred Buses’. Seen in Broadway, Winchester it was preparing to work the 1210 service 13 to Weeke Estate. The running day, held each New Year’s Day, sees different preserved buses and coaches running a network of fully timetabled free services to create a 1960s atmosphere of KAMS. It became Hants and Dorset 2211 when the KAMS business was taken over in 1973. H&D disposed of it in 1977 when it passed to the oil company Burmah-Castrol for staff transport. In the mid 1980s it was acquired by the Oxford Bus Museum Trust who later gave it over to FoKB on long term loan. In 2002 OBMT agreed that ownership pass to FoKAB. I rode on this trip. (326 CAA stands behind)
