Preserved Fishwick 5 (GRN 895W) at Morecambe - 25 May 2019 (P1020302)
Saturday 25 May 2019 - Stagecoach North West hosted an open day at their Morecambe garage to celebrate 100 years since the formation of Ribble Motor Services. Stagecoach acquired Ribble in May 1989.

GRN 895W, is an Eastern Coachworks bodied Leyland Atlantean AN69A/1A placed in service with John Fishwick and Sons of Leyland, Lancashire in February 1981 although it had existed as a testbed with Leyland since 1975. It features the hush kit chimneys which were fitted to the London DMS models (and I failed to get a rear end shot!!)

Over the years Fishwick’s, being based close to the Leyland manufacturing plants in the Lancashire town of Leyland, was the recipient of quite a number of out of the ordinary hybrid models that had been demonstrators or testbeds etc.

So the Leyland brand name came from the city?

That is correct Graham, Leyland Motors Limited took its name from where it was based. The company was registered in 1907 as a renaming of the Lancashire Steam Motor Company that had been formed in 1896.
