DSCF2732 Go North East 6053 (NK12 GDO) in Newcastle - 2 Jun 2018
Saturday 2 June 2018 (0924) – Go North East 6053 (NK12 GDO) seen entering the High Level Bridge linking Newcastle-upon-Tyne with Gateshead working ‘Red Arrows’ branded service X1 to Easington Lane, a journey of 1 hour 9 or so minutes. It is a Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B9TL new in August 2012 allocated to Washington garage.

The bridge was opened by Queen Victoria in 1849 and carries railway tracks on the upper level which can be seen above right emerging from Newcastle Central Station. The lower level features pedestrian paths either side of a roadway now restricted to use by local buses and taxis travelling southbound only. When constructed the roadway was adequate for two way carriage and cart traffic.
