Merseyside PTE CKD 402L in Rochdale - Aug 1977

August 1977 – An unusual visitor seen on the Esplanade in Rochdale was Merseyside PTE 4002 (CKD 402L), a Metro-Scania BR11MH new in 1972. I think it was on a private hire rather than acting as some form of demonstrator because the local PTE (SELNEC later renamed Greater Manchester) had similar buses of their own from the same year. Standing behind are two GMPTE double deckers, the leading one showing service ‘400’ which may have been in readiness (or between trips) on one of the Rochdale-Bolton (or vice versa afternoon) short trips of the much longer full service that linked Stockport-Oldham-Rochdale-Bury-Bolton.
