L'église montre dans sa conception d'immenses proportions : avec ses 60 m de long et ses 18 m de large, elle couvre une superficie de plus de 1200 m2. VERZERRTE PERSPEKTIVE... vom Inneren von N-D de Clairmont, der 1150 gegründeten Kirche der ehemaligen Zisterzienserabtei. Mit einem Weitwinkel aufgenommenen Foto, bin ich hier in der Mitte des lateinischen Kreuzes, Blick in Richtung Hauptschiff, Rücken zum Chor, links und rechts davon die Querschiffe. Die Kirche weist in ihrer Gestaltung immense Proportionen auf: mit einer Länge von 60 m und einer Breite von 18 m erstreckt sie sich über eine Fläche von mehr als 1200m2.

Clairmont Monastery was founded in 1152 and until the French Revolution, its history was rather poor in events. In 1791 during the French Revolution it was disbanded and turned into an agricultural property. It was not until 1954 that a private company acquired the then ruinous facility, which it subsequently restored The church, the 60 m long building of the lay brothers (probably the best preserved in France) and the entrance building from the founding time have been preserved. The other buildings date from around 1650. Only traces of the cloister have been preserved. The south wing of the enclosure is in ruins. UN COUP D'OEIL A TRAVERS L'OUVERTURE. L'abbaye de Clairmont a été fondé en 1152 et jusqu'à la Révolution française, son histoire était plutôt pauvre en événements. En 1791, pendant la Révolution française, elle fut dissoute et transformée en propriété agricole. Ce n'est qu'en 1954 qu'une entreprise privée a acquis l'installation alors en ruine, qu'elle a ensuite restaurée. L'église, le bâtiment des convers de 60 m de long (probablement le mieux conservé de France) et le bâtiment d'entrée de l'époque de la fondation ont été conservés. Les autres bâtiments datent d'environ 1650. Seules les traces du cloître ont été conservées. L'aile sud de l'enceinte est en ruine. EIN BLICK DURCH DIE ÖFFNUNG.Das Kloster Clairmont wurde 1152 und bis zur französischen Revolution war seine Geschichte an Ereignissen eher arm. 1791 während der Französischen Revolution wurde es aufgelöst und in ein landwirtschaftliches Anwesen umgewandelt. Erst 1954 erwarb eine privatrechtliche Gesellschaft die damals ruinöse Anlage, die sie in der Folgezeit restaurieren liess Erhalten sind die Kirche, das 60 m lange Laienbrüder-Gebäude (das wohl am besten erhaltene in Frankreich) und der Eingangsbau aus der Gründungszeit. Die übrigen Gebäude stammen aus der Zeit um 1650. Vom Kreuzgang sind nur Spuren erhalten. Der Südflügel der Klausur liegt in Ruinen.

Cette sculpture en inox de 8m de haut est fabriquée par le carrossier du village pour un spectacle. Ensuite elle est installée au bord de la route à la vue de tous. PEGASUS WITHOUT WINGS. This 8m high stainless steel sculpture is made by the village coachbuilder for a performance. Then it is installed by the side of the road for all to see. PEGASOS OHNE FLÜGEL. Diese 8 m hohe Edelstahlskulptur ist vom Karosseriebauer des Dorfes für ein Schauspiel angefertigt. Danach wird es am Strassenrand installiert, damit alle es sehen können.

De 1863 à 1878, le peintre impressionniste Camille Pissarro fit de nombreux séjours en Mayenne, au domaine de Monfoucault chez son ami et peintre Ludovic Piette, qu'il a connu à Paris. Aujourd'hui, on peut suivre les traces de ces deux peintres, découvrir les chemins qu'ils ont empruntés, les lieux qui les ont inspirés à créer douze de leurs œuvres. Le parcours est jalonnée de reproductions où l'on peut voir in situ ce qu'ils ont peint à l'époque. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF PISSARO - THE DISCOVERY OF ART IN NATURE. From 1863 to 1878 the impressionist painter Camille Pissarro spent many stays in Mayenne on the Monfoucault estate with his friend and painter Ludovic Piette, whom he met in Paris. Today you can follow the footsteps of these two painters, discover the paths they took, the places that inspired them to realize twelve of their works. The walk is lined with the corresponding reproductions, where you can see in situ what they painted back then. AUF DEN SPUREN VON PISSARO - DIE ENTDECKUNG VON KUNST IN DER NATUR. Von 1863 bis 1878 verbrachte der impressionistische Maler Camille Pissarro zahlreiche Aufenthalte in der Mayenne auf dem Monfoucault-Anwesen bei seinem Freund und Maler Ludovic Piette, den er in Paris kennenlernte. Heute kann man in die Fussstapfen dieser beiden Maler treten, die Wege entdecken, die sie eingeschlagen haben, die Orte, die sie dazu inspiriert haben, zwölf ihrer Werke zu verwirklichen. Der Spazierweg wird von den entsprechenden Reproduktionen gesäumt, wo man heute in situ sehen kann, was sie damals gemalt haben.

Saint Yves Chapel was built at the highest point of the forest and serves today as an exhibition space (a few years ago, with some photos, I participated in a joint exhibition with other artists). CLÔTURE SUR LA CHAPELLE. La Chapelle Saint Yves, au point haut de la forêt, sert aujourd'hui de salle d'exposition (il y a quelques années, avec quelques photos, j'y ai participé à une exposition commune avec d'autres artistes). ZAUN AUF DER KAPELLE. Die Saint-Yves-Kapelle am höchsten Punkt des Waldes wird heute als Ausstellungsraum genutzt (vor einigen Jahren nahm ich mit einigen Fotos an einer gemeinsamen Ausstellung mit anderen Künstlern teil).

Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims have taken the Mont-Saint-Michel route, which leads from Tours via Le Mans and through the Mayenne department. This fountain in the "Bois du Tay" has quenched the thirst of many pilgrims on the way... FONTAINE DU PELERIN. Depuis le Moyen-Âge, le pélerins empruntent le grand chemin du Mont-Saint-Michel, en provenance de Tours, puis Le Mans en passant par la Mayenne. Cette fontaine au "Bois du Tay" a désaltéré bien de pélerins pendant leur marche sur le chemin montais... PILGERBRUNNEN. Seit dem Mittelalter nehmen Pilger den Weg zum Mont-Saint-Michel, der von Tours über Le Mans und durch die Mayenne führt. Dieser Brunnen im "Bois du Tay" hat schon den Durst vieler Pilger auf ihrem Weg gestillt...

... se trouve le magnifique manoir de Pierre-Fontaine (XV et XVIème siècles). Un large escalier extérieur en pierre permet d’accéder au logis à l’entrée prolongée par un auvent aux piliers de bois. Une tour octogonale est percée d’étroites ouvertures défensives. Lors de notre randonnée, nous avons eu de la chance : M. le comte est sorti de sa propriété pour nous permettre de visiter la chapelle, il est connu pour toujours être prêt à partager l'histoire du site avec les randonneurs. Derrière se dresse le relais TV du Mont Rochard (357 m) qui est composé d'un pylône haubané mesurant 200 m de haut et d'une tour hertzienne haute de 61 m (voir PiP). AT THE VERY END OF A PATH... is the magnificent manor house of Pierre-Fontaine (15th and 16th centuries). A wide stone staircase gives access to the house. The entrance is extended by a canopy with wooden pillars. An octagonal tower is pierced with narrow defensive openings. We were lucky during our hike: the Count came from his property to allow us to visit the chapel. He is known for always being ready to share the history of the place with hikers. GANZ AM ENDE EINES WEGES... ist das prächtige Herrenhaus von Pierre-Fontaine (15./ 16. Jh.). Eine breite Aussentreppe aus Stein bietet Zugang zum Haus. Der Eingang wird durch einen Baldachin mit Holzsäulen erweitert. Ein 8-eckiger Turm ist mit engen Verteidigungsöffnungen durchbohrt. Während unserer Wanderung hatten wir Glück : der Herr Graf kam von seinem Grundstück, um uns den Besuch der Kapelle zu gestatten. Er ist bekannt dafür, immer bereit zu sein, die Geschichte des Ortes mit Wanderern zu teilen. Dahinter steht das TV-Relais des Mont Rochard (357 m), das aus einem 200 m hohen abgespannten Pylon und einem 61 m hohen Funkturm besteht (siehe PiP).

Le sommet ici ne culmine qu'à 291 m, mais la vue panoramique est splendide. "Un arbre photogénique entouré de magnifiques couleurs" (merci Edna pour le tuyau). ON THE HEIGHTS AT SUNSET. The summit here is only 291 m high, but the panoramic view is plendid "A photogenic tree with wonderful colors around it" (thanks for the tip, Edna). BEI SONNENUNTERGANG AUF DER HÖHE. Der Gipfel hier ist nur 291 m hoch, aber der Panoramablick ist herrlich. "Ein fotogener Baum mit wunderbaren Farben drumherum" (Danke für den Tipp, Edna).

Construite en 1402 tout comme l'ermitage dont les ruines sont encore visibles au pied de la chapelle, elle accueillait les pèlerins en route vers le Mont-Saint-Michel. Elle est bâtie sur le Montaigu, un sommet d'un peu moins de 300 m, mais avec une vue panoramique exceptionnelle à 360°. ST MICHAEL CHAPEL. The chapel and the hermitage, the ruins of which are still visible at the foot of the chapel, were built in 1402 and hosted pilgrims on their way to Mont-Saint-Michel. The exceptional altarpiece in the Saint-Eustache chapel of the Saint-Protais-Saint-Gervais church, surprising for its architectural quality and its symbolic significance, is one of the oldest preserved in Mayenne (1530). Quotes in Latin evoke death, and the skull that adorns the center of the altar gives the altarpiece a macabre meaning. LE CRÂNE VOUS GUETTE... L'exceptionnel retable de la chapelle Saint-Eustache de l’église Saint-Protais-Saint-Gervais, surprenant par sa qualité architecturale et sa portée symbolique est l’un des plus anciens conservés en Mayenne (1530). Des phrases en latin évoquent la mort, et le crâne qui orne le centre de l’autel donnent au retable une signification macabre. DER SCHÄDEL BEOBACHTET EUCH.... Das aussergewöhnliche Altarbild in der Saint-Eustache-Kapelle der Saint-Protais-Saint-Gervais-Kirche, das durch seine architektonische Qualität und seine symbolische Bedeutung überrascht, ist eines der ältesten in der Mayenne (1530). Sätze in lateinischer Sprache zitieren den Tod, und der Schädel, der die Mitte des Altars schmückt, verleiht dem Altarbild eine makabere Bedeutung.

La porte Saint-Mathurin est l'une des entrées de ce petit village fortifié, entouré d'une enceinte de murailles dont il reste d'importants vestiges. L'enceinte fortifié (12 et 13ème siècles) inclue la motte castrale, les ruines du donjon, les fossés et enceintes du bourg ainsi que les deux portes fortifiées dites de Saint-Rémy et Saint-Mathurin. THAT'S REALLY STURDY! The gate of Saint-Mathurin is one of the entrances to this small fortified village surrounded by a wall of which there are significant remains. The fortified complex (12th and 13th C.) includes the castle hill, the ruins of the keep, the moats and fences of the village and the two fortified gates Saint-Rémy and Saint-Mathurin. DAS IST ECHT STANDHAFT! Das Saint-Mathurin-Tor ist einer der Eingänge zu diesem kleinen befestigten Dorf, das von einer Mauer umgeben ist, von der bedeutende Überreste vorhanden sind. Die befestigte Anlage (12. und 13. Jh.) umfasst den Burghügel, die Ruinen des Bergfrieds, die Gräben und Einfriedungen des Dorfes sowie die beiden befestigten Tore Saint-Rémy und Saint-Mathurin.

Le château du Rocher dont la construction a commencé au 13ème siècle se reflète dans les eaux d'un paisible étang. Il est hérissé de tours aux toits pointus et arbore sur sa façade principale une splendide galerie Renaissance à cinq arcades. Une vieille légende, celle de la Dame verte, raconte que le château serait régulièrement le témoin d'apparitions d'une dame vêtue de vert (la duchesse du Lude et ancienne propriétaire du domaine), une chasseresse impénitente condamnée à errer en ces lieux pour l'éternité… SLEEPING BEAUTY'S CASTLE. Eine alte Legende, die der Grünen Dame, besagt, dass das Schloss regelmäßig die Erscheinungen einer grün gekleideten Dame (der Herzogin von Lude und ehemalige Besitzerin des Anwesens) erlebt, einer reuelosen Jägerin, die dazu verdammt ist, für die Ewigkeit an diesem Ort herum zu irren...

Les "Alpes Mancelles" : des vallées encaissées, des pentes abruptes et le cours d’eau qui a dessiné de majestueux méandres dans la roche granitique. Cela donne vraiment l’impression de se trouver en montagne. Loin de l’altitude de leurs lointaines cousines, elles oscillent entre 140 et 220 m, avec le point culminant du Grand Ouest à 417 m (Mont des Avaloirs). WHEN THE SARTHE RIVER PUTS ON ITS MOUNTAIN CLOTHES... The "Mancelles Alps": deep valleys and steep slopes, and the Sarthe, which creates majestic meanders in the granite rocks. Weit entfernt von der Höhe ihrer entfernten Cousins pendeln sie zwischen 140 und 220m, wobei der höchste Punkt Westfrankreichs mit 417 m liegt (Mont des Avaloirs).

Dans notre large voisinage se trouve ce ravissant château (*). Il y a quelques années, il a été acheté par un couple néerlandais qui propose maintenant des chambres d'hôtes. (*) Il a été construit vers 1900 sur l'emplacement d'un ancien château du 16ème siècle (démoli au 19ème siècle). In our wider neighborhood, this charming castle (*) is located in its green surroundings. A couple of years ago it was bought by a Dutch couple who now offer guest rooms. (*) It was built around 1900 on the site of an old castle from the 16th century (demolished in the 19th century). In unserer weiteren Nachbarschaft befindet sich dieses charmante Schloss (*) in seiner grünen Umgebung. Vor einigen Jahren wurde es von einem holländischen Ehepaar gekauft, das heute Gästezimmer anbietet. (*) Es wurde um 1900 an der Stelle eines alten Schlosses aus dem 16. Jh. erbaut (im 19. Jh. abgerissen).
