We became aware of this incident last night from the news. Sadness permeates the heart. I hope that after restoration the cathedral will become more strong and will stand for many years.

Yes, it was a huge shock when the news announced it, we could not believe it!! If you think that the cathedral survived the WW II, and now in 2019 it is partly destroyed.... The reconstruction will last many years.

Yes, it's awful and the roof is now a like a huge wound (I saw drone's pictures). Many years will pass before Notre-Dame will be "healed". Have a nice Easter weekend, Diana.

I have visited Notre Dame on several occasions, and it means so much when it happens to a place you know and like. Good news is that nobody died, and the irreplaceable religious relics were saved.
You can destroy the building, but you can't destroy a church!

Thank you. Yes, it's a tragedy, but I think we all are relieved that the disaster was finally limited.

I followed the event closely - and speaking as a retired firefighter.. it is always a tragic loss....
[ but not as much as life ].... when fine buildings of this nature are severely damaged in fire.. it will be re-stored with skilled craftsmanship and any available original plans and drawings will be followed too.. I hope that there will be no ''modern ideas'' during restoration and the building will resemble the original when completed..

Thanks David. Sure, it will be rebuild but never will be the same. I think the outer restoration will respect the former aspect, but probably the roof framing will be modern because they can never replace the "wooden forest" from the 13th C. like it was before...

Kommt darauf an, WIE sie die Kathedrale wieder aufbauen werden - gebrauchen sie z.B. moderne Materalien und Maschinen, dürfte es schneller gehen.

Ein Riesen Schreck...in den ersten Stunden sah es so aus, als würde es nicht zu retten sein...Gott sei Dank ist es nicht so gekommen:)

Ja Tanja, das dachten wir alle, am Anfang sah es schlimm aus. Aber glücklicherweise ist hauptsächlich "nur" der Dachstuhl verbrannt, doch der ist unersetzbar, aus dem 13. Jh. stammend....

Oui, très tragique! Cela prendra au moins 10 ans! Seulement jusqu'à ce que les responsables de monuments se soient mis d'accord sur une solution! Je le sais assez! :-]

Tu as raison polytropos, avant que tout le monde soit d'accord il faut sûrement un temps certain ! Et après seulement ils peuvent commencer la reconstruction..... Mais un jour elle sera comme avant, au moins de l'extérieur.
