The crenellated curtain of the castle
The Avranches fortress itself was built in the 10th C., the dungeon in the 11th C. Most of the walls are still intact, but parts were destroyed in the 19th century. Then the job was finished in WW 2 with massive bombings. They have been reconstructing the fortress over the last few years and today it can be visited for free.

Vraiment majestueuse cette forteresse dans sa conception et dans sa robustesse...
C'est vraiment un plaisir de visiter ces monuments pleins d'histoire et de secret .

Merci Marie, et quand tu penses que cela fait 1000 ans qu'il a été construit ! On se demande ce qui pourrait rester de nos bâtiments contemporains en 2118.....

...oh ja, mein erster Urlaub dort unten war im Jahr 1979. Da ist an meinem kleinen Fiat 127, kurz vor der Ankunft in Avranches, der Auspuff abgerissen. Den hatte ich vor meiner Urlaubsreise selbst noch "gut" geflickt. Das Röhren des Autos bei der Ankunft dort habe ich noch immer in den Ohren. Man hat mir aber in einer Fiat Werkstatt einen neuen Auspuff montiert und in der Zwischenzeit habe ich die Burg besichtigt. (Später natürlich nochmal)

Da hattest du ja wirklich Glück, Lothar, dass du gleich eine Werkstatt gefunden hast, die dir dein Auto repariert hat. Und dass es in einer Stadt war, wo es etwas zu sehen gab....
