Das Flockenblumen-Grünwidderchen: eine rare Schönheit - The scarce forester: a rare beauty

Yesterday, during a hike, I discovered this turquoise butterfly in a meadow: the scarce forester (Jordanita globulariae) from the family of rams (zygaenids). The name rams comes from the conspicuous antennae of the male moths. However, this rather small butterfly species usually remains undetected due to its small size and camouflage colour. As populations are declining, the Jordanita globulariae is listed as critically endangered in the German Red List. The loss of suitable habitats is assumed to be the reason for the species decline. Just by the way: In my childhood I used to find green widgets all the time, but today they are really rare.
In the photo you can see a male scarce forester sucking nectar on a scabious flower. It is also fending off a beetle (Oedemera femorata) that comes too close.
