In the picture the beautiful inflorescences of the Persian ironwood (Parrotia persica), which is currently flowering in the Würzburg Ringpark. It is a relatively rarely planted tree that often grows shrub-like. Remarkable are: The high density of the wood, which is why it sinks in water (!); the flowers where the petals are missing and the flower colour is achieved by red coloured anthers and the splendid red autumn colouring (see PiP, A. Savin, WikiCommons, Botanischer Garten Berlin-Dahlem 10-2014 photo13 Parrotia persica.jpg).
