Das Forte de São Francisco Xavier, im Volksmund auch Castelo do Queijo (Käseburg) * genannt, wahrscheinlich um 1661 oder 1662 nach der Bedrohung durch die galizische Flotte und gegen Einfälle nordafrikanischer Piraten gegründet.
1934 wurde es als 'Eigentum von öffentlichem Interesse' eingestuft und kann besichtigt werden (Eintritt € -.50).

* Es wurde auf einem Granitfelsen erbaut, der auf Grund seiner abgerundeten Form einem Käselaib gleichen soll.
