Trakai war im Mittelalter die Hauptstadt von Litauen und im 14. Und 15. Jahrhundert Sitz der litauischen Grossfürsten. Die Stadt liegt etwa 28 km westlich von Vilnius (der heutigen Hauptstadt von Litauen). Die Stadt ist berühmt für die Wasserburg Trakai.
