Good to see somewhere that isn't a throwaway culture.

Cubans are forced to be masters in maintaining old stuff mainly by the US-blockade, which now exists since 60 years. Nobody cares about. You have to imagine, the US government is punishing any company, even foreign companies, for trading with Cuba! And now under Trump it's much worse than before. But you're right. The positive side effect is, Cuba is the opposite of our terrible throwaway culture. And we can imagine, how long things could be actually used. This truck consumes an enormous amount of fuel, but in total it is less environmental burden than (at least) the production of 5 new trucks - for sure.

Life is better there than in most other latin american countries. Remarkable.

A great colourful streetscape. I saw quite a few of these trucks in Laos and Cambodia in 2011.

I can imagine, that a lot of such trucks are still driving there, both from Russia and the States.
