Pendeen Lighthouse and foghorns

Pendeen Lighthouse and foghorns
Trinity House decided to build the Pendeen Lighthouse - also called Pendeen Watch - and foghorn in 1891 and the building was designed by their engineer Sir Thomas Matthews. The 17 metres tower, buildings and surrounding wall was constructed by Arthur Carkeek of Redruth who had to flatten the headland before building could commence. It was commissioned in 1900. It is located 2 kilometres to the north of Pendeen in west Cornwall

In Zennor, when I was little, this lighthouse used to wake me up at night. I think it was every 5 minutes when the light would sweep round and get into the bedroom through the slightest crack in the curtains and the foghorn was just incredibly loud! But everyone gets used to it after a while!
