Not So Easy ...

Not So Easy ...
So, decided to try bracketing on my Nikon D90 today with a view to trying HDR for the first time.

This is the first attempt and I was a little disappointed with it as I felt the need to tweak it somewhat which I'd not expected would be necessary.

Also, If it's a windy day and there are clouds in your shot ... be quick taking your set of photos otherwise they're extremely difficult to align!

well Paul, this is a perfect subject (in my mind) I think you got it, this looks great and not overdone but you sure do need a still subject! I moved my camera a titch when I did my shots and they aligned up good but processing left a weird edge on 2 sides, nothing a slight crop didn't fix.

Thanks very much for the words of encouragement Wendi ... next time I'll wait for a cloudless day or at least one when the winds are not as strong! ;)

I use LuminanceHDR, which has image auto-alignment and anti ghosting for hand held shots and moving subjects, and it's free; then finish off with the extremely powerful GIMP photo manipulation package, also freeware, there's an HDR album in my stream, all image done as handheld using these two packages.

Thanks for the info. Been getting on a bit better with Photomatix, but will check out your album and bear in mind what you've said about LuminanceHDR! :)
