Die Maheno, einem Dampfschiff, dessen Rumpf jetzt am Strand von K'gari vor sich hin rostet, wurde von Neuseeland im Ersten Weltkrieg als Lazarettschiff eingesetzt. Sie geriet in einen Winterzyklon, als sie zur Schrottverwertung nach Japan geschleppt wurde und lief am 8. Juli 1935 am Cathedral Beach auf Fraser Island auf Grund.
